1. About the Endowment
The Brial Endowment ("the Endowment", "we") is a sovereign philanthropic foundation: an independent, privately funded perpetual endowment. Its principal is held in trust and is not spent; its returns fund its pillars, which include scholarships, houses of worship, the library, food and land, clean water and others that will follow. The Endowment is not currently registered as a charity, foundation, association or company in any country. It is run by its founder and, in time, by a council.
By using this website, creating an account or making a gift, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy.
2. Scholarships
Who can apply
Students from high school to doctoral level, at any school or university and from any country, aged 14 or older. Applicants under 18 must have the knowledge and agreement of a parent or guardian.
Applying
- Everything you tell us must be true and complete, and the documents you upload must be your own and genuine.
- Applying does not guarantee a scholarship. The number of scholarships depends on the funds available each year.
- We decide on every application, including interviews, at our own discretion. Our decisions are final, and we are not required to give reasons.
What a scholarship is
- A scholarship is a gift. It is not a loan and you never have to repay it, unless it was obtained with false information.
- We pay tuition directly to your school or university, normally one semester at a time, after you upload the bill in the Scholar Portal. We do not pay cash to scholars unless we agree otherwise in writing.
- A scholarship does not make you an employee, agent or representative of the Endowment.
What we ask of scholars
- Upload each tuition bill and each semester's results in the Scholar Portal on time.
- Tell us promptly about any change: a new programme, a pause in study, a change of institution, or graduation.
- Keep your account details up to date and your password private.
When a scholarship can be paused or ended
We may pause or end a scholarship if information you gave us was false, if you stop studying or stop sharing your bills and results, if you act in a way that seriously harms the Endowment or others, or if the Endowment's funds can no longer support it. We will tell you why and, where we can, give you the chance to explain first. Tuition already paid is not reclaimed, except where the scholarship was obtained with false information.
Public record
Every gift the Endowment makes is recorded publicly. If you are accepted, some of your details appear on our website as described in the Privacy Policy, and your scholarship becomes part of the Endowment's permanent history.
3. Donations
- Gifts are voluntary and cannot be refunded once received. If you send a gift by mistake, write to us within 14 days and we will consider it in good faith.
- Because the Endowment is not a registered charity in any country, gifts are not tax deductible and we cannot issue tax receipts. We do send a receipt of thanks for every verified gift.
- We use every gift for the work of the Endowment and its pillars, with no administrative fees. Where you ask for a gift to go to a particular pillar, we will honour that wherever we can.
- Gifts in cryptocurrency must be sent on the network and to the address shown on our donation page. A transfer sent to the wrong network or address cannot be recovered, and we cannot be responsible for it. Every blockchain transfer is public and permanent.
- Unless you choose to give anonymously, your name, country, message and the amount of your gift may appear on our public ledger.
- We may remove a message from the ledger, or decline a gift, if it is offensive, unlawful or comes from a source we cannot accept.
4. Accounts
One account per person. Keep your password private; you are responsible for what happens in your account. We may close an account that is used to mislead us, to harm others, or to break these Terms.
5. The website
We work to keep the information on this website accurate and the site available, but we provide it as it is and cannot promise it will always be complete, current or uninterrupted. Our name, star emblem, writing, photographs and design belong to the Endowment or to those who allowed us to use them; please ask before reusing them. Links to partners lead to sites we do not control.
6. Responsibility
As far as the law allows, the Endowment is not liable for indirect losses, or for losses caused by events outside our reasonable control, including failures of banks, blockchains or internet services. Nothing in these Terms removes rights that the law gives you and that cannot be removed.
7. Disagreements
If something goes wrong, please write to us at [email protected]. We will try to resolve any disagreement with you directly, promptly and in good faith.
8. Changes
We may update these Terms. The current version and its date are always shown on this page. When a change matters, scholars will be asked to confirm the new version the next time they sign in.
